Where it all began last summer. Early Bluebird rehearsals at the Space Kitchen, Dan's old place by the train tracks in St-Henri, Montreal, Quebec.

We've got a whole lot coming up this next week, with a single and video drop scheduled for next Tuesday (April 28th) courtesy of our dear friend Terrance Tator Houle and an EP drop on Friday, May 1st via Bandcamp.

Dan wrote a lot of the songs we'll be releasing while living here, so it's a meaningful place to him as well as to us.

Keep your eyes and ears peeled everyone, we're just getting started!

The start of something Good... James Healey had the idea to try and record a few tracks over a weekend using a Soundfield Microphone, just like the Cowboy Junkies did 32 years ago at The Church Of The Holy Trinity in Toronto.

He decided to invite Dan Beasy and Bluebird down to Wakefield, QC to record in a small Anglican Church that sits there by the Gatineau River in the heart of the village: The Church of The Good Shepherd.

Dan, following an intuition, decided to invite a few other close friends to the session.

Some of us flew in, some of us hitched rides and rode buses, some of us drove, but we were all there Friday night, setting up for Saturday in the dim warm light of the Parrish Church.

That Saturday we recorded four tracks.

Hey everyone! With all the craziness out in the world, we wanted to update you on the going on abouts here at Baby Horse Records.

We’re currently hard at work here on our next release, finishing up mixes and artwork. It's gonna be a four track country EP by Bluebird.

Here’s a sneak preview from a session we did recently with the legendary Kim Deschamps, who played on The Cowboy Junkies' Trinity Session, which served as the main inspiration for our last release, The Wakefield Session.

Not only that, but Kim was also a member of Blue Rodeo, and his inimitable sound can be heard all over their records, including the famous Five Days In July.
It goes without saying that it was an honour and privilege for us here at Baby Horse Records to work with Kim and to have him play his pedal steel on our upcoming Bluebird release.

With that said, keep your eyes and ears peeled for our next release, which is due in April... Bluebird - Two Birds (Landed On A Line)

We are super excited to share our first release with the world!

Inspired by the Cowboy Junkie’s 1988 album The Trinity Session, The Wakefield Session was recorded in one day through a Soundfield Microphone in The Church Of The Good Shepherd in Wakefield, QC.

Please check it out on bandcamp and soundcloud, it’s free but we’d really appreciate if any donation you consider appropriate.

We hope this music will bring you some well being in these unique times.

Had a great day today tracking some piano with the unmatched @kilcull here at the studio.

We used a few different microphones to ensure the producer of the project would have plenty of options, namely: a #goldenage R1 ribbon mic on the back, for a vintage mono sound; a pair of #rode NT55 small-diaphragm condensers in the front, for a bright, percussive stereo image, and an #audiotechnica at4047 as a mono room source.

A lot of big stuff is happening here at the studio

A lot of big stuff is happening here at the studio, so I wanted to take a minute to update you all!  With everything that has happened in the last few months, we’ve, if nothing else, had a lot of time to think. One of the things we’ve been discussing here for a long time is the need to move, and this for two reasons. Number one is so that we could build our studio professionally from the ground up, in a space where we have complete control of incoming noise, acoustique design, etc. Number two was so that we could be located closer to the heart of what we consider our musical community. Well, we’ve finally made the move! And we are so excited to share it with you all.  Our new studio, which we have begun building this week, will now be located in the south-ouest of Montreal, just along St-Patrick street south of the Lachine Canal. It’s an incredible location, walking distance from St-Henri, Pointe Saint Charles, the South Ouest and Verdun…  The studio is being designed and built with the vision of it serving multiple purposes: the first being recording, the second being rehearsing, and the third being as a space where we hope to begin a series of intimate shows which would be presented over the internet as live stream / through a YouTube channel dedicated to the space.  The studio will be operated professionally by myself @williamcdpoulin and @matt_damron , but will also be shared with our bandmates @bluebirdmtl @freddypoulin and @thatnikkiyouknow , as well as by our friend and affiliate engineer @jms.hly .  Of course, it will also serve as a central location for the operations going on @babyhorserecords , where we are working really hard to build a company that will work with our community to showcase all the diverse and incredible talent we have here!

Best of all, we should be up and running by August.  For all this we have our dear, dear friend @well_butter_my_buttocks to thank, who has volunteered to design and build the studio with us. Without him this would not be possible and we cannot thank him enough.  If you would like to book some time with us in advance, please DM us through the studio page!  Thank you so much and stay well everyone!
